Burks Regenerative Turbine Pump Repair

Burks Regenerative Turbine Pump

Model: 315CS5M-FE

This Burks Regenerative Turbine pump was pulled off a boiler system when its performance started to decline.  Now that the backup pump is also starting to wear; it was brought in to Salentine’s repair shop.

After opening it up, it was pretty obvious it’s been out of use for awhile.  Inside was full of rust, and the gasket o-ring was coming off in chunks.

The impeller and raceway had become too worn to perform.  The raceway was worn down past the level of the impeller’s Monel blades which explained why it was taken off the line in the first place, it wasn’t able to build enough pressure.

We stock Burks rebuild kits and had one handy for this pump on our shelf, so we swapped out the seals, impeller, raceway, gaskets and o-rings.  We sandblasted the rust out of the inner casing, and painted the outside to look like a brand new Burks!

Burks Regenerative Turbine pumps perform very efficiently in high pressure, low capacity applications.  These pumps are designed to handle clear water and many other non-abrasive, lower viscosity liquids.  This is the only turbine which allows readjustment of the impeller without having to take the pump apart or disturb the piping.
